Winter tyres - for a save driving on snow and ice.
The "M + S" (or M & S, MS) marking can currently be found on winter and all season tyres. Besides this marking, a snowflake symbol can be found on some models. The M + S tyres that have the snowflake symbol meet the higher quality standards. Since 2011, winter tyres are mandatory in Ireland. Having a special blend of rubber that resists to low temperatures, these tyres are more adapted to winter conditions than the summer tyres. Therefore, the car will have a good grip even dealing with low temperatures. The optimised profile reduces the risk of hydroplaning and provides a good grip in snowy and icy conditions. The larger grooves and the additional blades improve stability when switching from snow to wet and to dry road conditions. We have winter tyres suitable for your car. Identify the size of your tyre
The exact dimensions of a tyre can be found on the sidewall printed mark. The graphic shows how to read properties and dimensions of the tyre:

SPEED INDEX:
The speed index indicates the maximum speed intended for the tyre. Up to this value, the manufacturer guarantees optimum operation with the appropriate tyre pressure. The maximum speed allowed for this vehicle is given in the vehicle owner's manual; this information can be used to select the appropriate speed index for the tyre. The speed index is the last mark on the sidewall of the tyre.
 
Load Index
Permissible maximum axle load per tyre in kg. To be found in the registration certificate or vehicle registration document or read directly from the tyre (two-digit number). It is permitted to fit a tyre with a higher load index.
 
Driving safety despite puncture
Runflat tyres are puncture-resistant tyres with reinforced sidewalls. This creates the so-called run-flat property. In the event of damage, this allows the vehicle to continue driving up to a distance of approx. 100 km (and even beyond depending on the product) at a maximum speed of 80 km/h, even if the pressure has been completely lost. Run-flat tyres even prevent the tyre rubber from jumping off the rim in the event of a loss of air pressure. A flat tyre is therefore still a flat tyre, but it loses some of its drama. Note: All run-flat tyres are marked with the symbol "RSC" (Runflat System Component) and may only be fitted in vehicles with a functioning air pressure control system!
 
Tyres with increased load capacity
Reinforced tyres are designed for higher loads than normal tyres. They can be identified by the designation 'RF' (reinforced) or also 'XL' or 'Extra Load'. They are used on vans, minibuses, off-road vehicles, etc. However, their mounting alone does not automatically result in higher load capacity but also requires a correspondingly higher air pressure. Furthermore, the load capacity index specified in the vehicle documents continues to apply.
 
Tyres with extra high load capacity
The "C" in the term C tyres stands for "commercial". These tyres are specially designed for commercial vehicles. These can be, for example, lighter trucks, delivery vans, flatbed trucks or panel vans. In other words: vehicles that have to move higher loads at a comparatively lower speed. The multi-ply reinforced C tyres are therefore even more load-bearing than reinforced tyres.
 
Mobility-optimised tyres
A tyre with a sealing layer on the opposite side of the tyre tread. In the event of a puncture (e.g. by a nail), this layer blocks any loss of air, even if the foreign body causing the puncture is still in the tyre. It is not necessary to stop or change the tyres immediately at the roadside.

These tires are Continental Viking 6 clones (compound, sipes, grooves, pattern, literally everything, compare yourself), branded differently and hence cheaper.... Believe me, these are very good! Buying chinese winter tires is like gambling, you never know how they will perform as the reviews are non existant for the specific tire / brand or very few.... but im here to say, these are maybe the best winter tires ive had... they are not as good as Nordic Friction tires (Nokian Hakkapelitta, well, they are the best Winter tires in the world) but just as good and/or better than the rest honestly.... like Nokian WR D4 or Continental Vik. 6.... infact they are like Continental Vik. 6 clones, you would think they are a fake version of them, but nope, they are just that good.... which is very good...

Tyres can be noisy over rougher surfaces but seem to be lasting well. Not really had any snow to speak of to test them on properly but perform well enough in very wet conditions on roads. Fuel consumption seems to be slightly worse than with summer tyres fitted but not too noticeable, getting around 35mpg at each fill up - was getting 35 to 38 with previous tyres.

Worst tyre I've ever had. Despite only being on rear axle of fwd car, it seriously upset the steering. Very noisy (whiny) and took 10% off fuel economy. Did help in snow but awful in wet and dry. It's more like an off road tyre. Very good wear (unfortunately!) as only lost 1.5mm over 16000 km. had to replace them as felt unsafe.

When I purchased my vehicle (preowned) it came with Nexen tyres on all four corners. I had to change the two front tyres after a few years and choose Goodyears. Last year I had to change the front tyres again because the Goodyears had worn considerably, whilst still having the same Nexens on the rear of the car since I purchased it. Hence stick with the Nexens. When I need to change the rear tyres I will definitely choose Nexens.

Brilliant tyre. Sticks to the road in all conditions, effective handling and responsiveness on wet and dry roads. Brilliant grip on snow and ice.

Felt a little skittish when first fitted especially when applying the power through a roundabout. This was much more pronounced in the wet but never felt dangerous. Settled down after the first 500 miles and behaved slightly better. Felt surefooted and I generally never gave them too hard a time. Grips and brakes fine and more surefooted than summer tyres as the temperature drops. Would consider them again if / when buying to replace on this car or for another.

Ive noticied the grip limit is found much quicker than on normal tyres , driving briskly in dry weather on country roads the grip level soon levels off quite a lot quicker than with normal tyres , on wet or icey/snowy ground its a different kettle of fish , inspire confidence driving . Tyre wear is negliable , although i was intending to swap these around during summer , i&#39;ll run these year round .There has been a marked decline in mpg figures , perhaps 3-4 , probably due to the softer compound and extra sips

Though I&#39;d give these Davanti tyres a go as I&#39;ve seen a few Davanti dealers popping up all over the place. These tyres are reasonably good in snow and ice but the rest of the year it &quot;feels&quot; like you&#39;re driving on snow and ice. Very wayward and &quot;loose&quot; feel to them and a horrible bounce over 50mph like they aren&#39;t round anymore, not a wheel balance wobble but a up and down bounce which is very tiresome on longer journeys. There&#39;s a noticeable hum from the tyres like old fashioned aggressive winter tyres which changes pitch depending on angle of steering. I am a loyal supporter of winter tyres but these are like torture and not worth the grief in my opinion.

I haven&#39;t pushed the tyres any where near their limit as I drive very conservatively as an experienced driver, in a rural location, only travelling when required and choosing to drive at quiet times, and then came along Covid19. Wheel alignment was done when tyres were fitted so no abnormal wear, and last winter was only really wet and mild. So I gave them 4, they may well be 5s but I can&#39;t say.

Terrible grip in dry and wet. They are dangerous due to the amount drift. I thought they were low on pressure when I first used them. Only fitted to the rear and cause back end to drift when corning at speed. I have no confidence in cornering with them. They are okay in the snow though so if you&#39;re using only in snow they should be okay.

Unfortunately, I lost 3 of the 4 tyres to pot holes in fairly quick succession. It would seem that a combination of the very low profile 50, and presumably a softer tyre construction, makes them unsuitable for the potholed roads that are all too common in the UK
