Winter tyres - for a save driving on snow and ice.
The "M + S" (or M & S, MS) marking can currently be found on winter and all season tyres. Besides this marking, a snowflake symbol can be found on some models. The M + S tyres that have the snowflake symbol meet the higher quality standards. Since 2011, winter tyres are mandatory in Ireland. Having a special blend of rubber that resists to low temperatures, these tyres are more adapted to winter conditions than the summer tyres. Therefore, the car will have a good grip even dealing with low temperatures. The optimised profile reduces the risk of hydroplaning and provides a good grip in snowy and icy conditions. Identify the size of your tyre
The exact dimensions of a tyre can be found on the sidewall printed mark. The graphic shows how to read properties and dimensions of the tyre:

SPEED INDEX:
The speed index indicates the maximum speed intended for the tyre. Up to this value, the manufacturer guarantees optimum operation with the appropriate tyre pressure. The maximum speed allowed for this vehicle is given in the vehicle owner's manual; this information can be used to select the appropriate speed index for the tyre. The speed index is the last mark on the sidewall of the tyre.
 
Load Index
Permissible maximum axle load per tyre in kg. To be found in the registration certificate or vehicle registration document or read directly from the tyre (two-digit number). It is permitted to fit a tyre with a higher load index.
 
Driving safety despite puncture
Runflat tyres are puncture-resistant tyres with reinforced sidewalls. This creates the so-called run-flat property. In the event of damage, this allows the vehicle to continue driving up to a distance of approx. 100 km (and even beyond depending on the product) at a maximum speed of 80 km/h, even if the pressure has been completely lost. Run-flat tyres even prevent the tyre rubber from jumping off the rim in the event of a loss of air pressure. A flat tyre is therefore still a flat tyre, but it loses some of its drama. Note: All run-flat tyres are marked with the symbol "RSC" (Runflat System Component) and may only be fitted in vehicles with a functioning air pressure control system!
 
Tyres with increased load capacity
Reinforced tyres are designed for higher loads than normal tyres. They can be identified by the designation 'RF' (reinforced) or also 'XL' or 'Extra Load'. They are used on vans, minibuses, off-road vehicles, etc. However, their mounting alone does not automatically result in higher load capacity but also requires a correspondingly higher air pressure. Furthermore, the load capacity index specified in the vehicle documents continues to apply.
 
Tyres with extra high load capacity
The "C" in the term C tyres stands for "commercial". These tyres are specially designed for commercial vehicles. These can be, for example, lighter trucks, delivery vans, flatbed trucks or panel vans. In other words: vehicles that have to move higher loads at a comparatively lower speed. The multi-ply reinforced C tyres are therefore even more load-bearing than reinforced tyres.
 
Mobility-optimised tyres
A tyre with a sealing layer on the opposite side of the tyre tread. In the event of a puncture (e.g. by a nail), this layer blocks any loss of air, even if the foreign body causing the puncture is still in the tyre. It is not necessary to stop or change the tyres immediately at the roadside.

Original equipment quality: optimum adjustment to the vehicle
Tyres with a special OEM marking on the sidewall, e.g. "MO" for Mercedes-Benz, were developed in cooperation with a specific car manufacturer and the tyre industry. These tyres have been homologated by the vehicle manufacturer and are a perfect match for a specific model. They have been specially designed to highlight or further improve the performance characteristics of the car in question, thus representing the culmination of a state-of-the-art fine-tuning process that perfectly complements the latest technological developments in the automotive industry. Tyres with manufacturer's markings can of course also be used on other vehicles.

The tyres lasted about 3 weeks before one had a blow out the side wall of the tyre went on a motorway nearly caused an accident we were towed to a fast fit centre so they fitted 2 new tyres to replace the ones from mytyres I tried contacting the supplier had no answer from my email and the phone put on to a very unhelpful gentleman who took no notice of any thing I said. So I would say DON&rsquo;T buy tyres on line go to a fast fit that way if something goes wrong you can claim.

Have tried lots of different snow tyres over years and put these on my 3 series touring to replace the Pirelli zero&rsquo;s. If anything I thought they ran quieter than the zero&rsquo;s and plenty of grip in both dry and wet conditions. Used the in snow as well and kept everything moving which is all you want from a snow tyre.

As my Volvo is a rear wheel drive automatic I always use winter tyres. Previously had Goodyear ultra grip 9 and still have them on the front. New Goodyear ultra grip 3 on rear. We&#39;re great in the recent snow, where front wheel drives were getting stuck, no doubt on summer tyres.

Noisy piece of crap. Above 110km/h changes your vehicle into vibrating boat you cannot steer safely on highway. First and last Goodride (Westlake) that I ever purchased. Avoid that chinese garbage!

When I purchased my vehicle (preowned) it came with Nexen tyres on all four corners. I had to change the two front tyres after a few years and choose Goodyears. Last year I had to change the front tyres again because the Goodyears had worn considerably, whilst still having the same Nexens on the rear of the car since I purchased it. Hence stick with the Nexens. When I need to change the rear tyres I will definitely choose Nexens.

I bought these tyres because of the price and performance and there isn&#39;t much choice for winter tyres on 21&quot; rims. I drive sensibly with a mixture of counrty roads and highways. I have noticed the tyres are quite a bit noisier than summer tyres but that&#39;s to be expected given the tread pattern. Fuel consumption isn&#39;t that different which I&#39;m pleased about. Grip, both wet and dry is exceptional. I usually buy tyres with rim protection, these don&#39;t have it and I have kerbed my wheels, just have to be more careful in future. Overall I&#39;m pleased with these Yokohama&#39;s and would buy again.

This vehicle is used for both medium distance trips and a considerable amount of off-road mileage through the winter months (September-February). My two previous MLs had been fitted with General Grabber which had performed very well and particularly off-road in wet and muddy conditions, with a tread pattern that did not clog reducing their efficiency and the vehicles had never become stuck. Collectively, these vehicles had covered more than 421,000 miles without issue. However, my newest ML has bigger wheel rims and General Grabber do not build a tyre to fit. Yokohama appeared to be the only manufacturer to build tyres that fitted with anything like a proper off-road tread. My early experiences suggest that they are less efficient off-road than my previous selection, but this assessment is still work in progress.

These tyres have been superb. The grip in wet and snowy conditions even in a rear wheel drive car has been nothing short of exceptional. They feel good and give you the confidence in even the worst conditions that you can turn into corners and stop in a consistent manner. I&#39;ve pulled away on hills in snow and not had any wheelspin at all. Only downside is they can be a little noisy but this is hardly noticeable and is a comparison with a summer tyre so not entirely fair.
