EU Tyre Label and Efficiency Classes
The European Union, under CE 1222/2009, has mandated that all tyres manufactured after the date of July 1 2012 for cars and commercial vehicles include standard EU Tyre Labels classifying them by three performance characteristics:fuel efficiency classified from A to G,wet grip classified from A to G, and noise emission in decibels.
Categories of tyres unaffected by this regulation include: retreaded tyres, professional off-road tyres, racing/sports car tyres, as well as certain types of tyres designed to improve traction such as studded tyres, T-type temporary spare tyres, tyres for cars built before 1990, tyres with a maximum allowed speed of 80km/h, tyres for rims with a diameter less or equal to 254 mm or greater or equal to 635 mm. This label is intended on one hand to promote economic and ecological efficiency in traffic, as well as increase road safety, and on the other hand to help consumers select appropriate tyres by ensuring a certain degree of product transparency.
Nevertheless, the label has been criticized for only showing a very limited number of characteristics. Professionals argue that tyres have many more features that are important and relevant to road safety, including but not limited to aquaplaning properties, driving stability, service life, product properties on wet and dry roads other than wet grip, properties on snow. Tyre manufacturers suggest that the test results from various institutions and industry magazines should remain a very important source of information for the end consumer, because they focus on and rate a wide variety of tyre properties and features.

03.05.2021fromMark Morgan Ok, so I have MPS4S's for summer tyres but whilst biblical levels of grip in warmer temps do loose grip at less than 10c.
Already had a set of 305 Pirelli Sotozero for the rears and read reviews on these for the fronts and they seemed capable. So ordered them up and had them fitted to my spare winter alloys last Oct.
Winter rubber is a softer compound than Summer and of course there was increased tread noise due to 8mm on them
Have just (last week if April) had them taken off and swapped to my summer tyres and alloys. Appreciate during lockdown I've been doing less than half the miles I'd normally cover in 6 months (but have 2 other cars with all-season rubber)
All tyres showed minimum wear with tread still being at above 7mm.
Would defo recommend, as based on wear rates they should last me another 3-4yrs :)
23.08.2020fromEd W No problems with these tyres - delivered quickly, fitted and balanced easily. So far they've performed brilliantly in all road conditions from 30C summer to icy winter. They are quiet on the motorway but offer decent grip for limited off roading, mud and snow. It's too early to tell how they will last but so far so good.
12.08.2019fromADAM SMITH A bit dubious about road noise compared to summer Goodyear Eagle F1s but quite unnecessary - not noisier at all, no difference in fuel consumption, around 55mpg on a good run, and the grip in wet significantly better. Tread pattern near identical to recommended Pirelli or Continental for a lot less dosh.
Only one winter's worth so far - and the change was half-way through - but looking forward to November to change them back.
